Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Associate with strong scientific expertise—ideally in neuroscience—and hands-on experience in early-stage biotech or healthcare investing. This individual will work closely with the President of FFBW to source, evaluate, and execute investment opportunities, as well as support the foundation’s active portfolio. The position blends cutting-edge science, strategic investing, and philanthropic purpose, with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Sourcing & Pipeline Development
Identify and engage with emerging companies, academic spinouts, and translational programs aligned with FFBW’s mission.
Build and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, academic institutions, and industry partners.
Contribute to pipeline management, including tracking deal flow, managing funnel stages, and supporting internal processes to ensure consistent follow-up and evaluation.
Scientific & Strategic Due Diligence
Lead scientific diligence with an emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease biology, target validation, and therapeutic strategy.
Support in analyzing preclinical/clinical data, competitive landscapes, and intellectual property positions.
Participate in evaluating regulatory, clinical, and commercial viability under mentorship from leadership.
Investment Execution
Contribute to deal structuring, financial modeling, and preparation of investment memoranda.
Support negotiation and documentation of investments with oversight from the President and advisors.
Collaborate with consultants, external advisors, and co-investors throughout diligence and execution.
Portfolio Company Support
Assist in tracking portfolio company progress against scientific and operational milestones.
Participate in strategic discussions with management teams to support value creation.
Support monitoring and reporting processes for the foundation’s portfolio.
Market & Scientific Landscape Analysis
Track and synthesize developments in neurodegenerative disease research, therapeutic modalities, and biotech funding trends.
Provide insights to inform FFBW’s investment strategy and philanthropic priorities.
Qualifications
Education: PhD in neuroscience or a related biomedical discipline (strong preference for Alzheimer’s disease expertise).
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in biotech/healthcare investing, ideally through a venture capital or venture philanthropy model.
Scientific Expertise: Deep understanding of Alzheimer’s disease pathophysiology, drug development pathways, and current therapeutic landscape.
Analytical Skills: Ability to critically evaluate complex scientific, clinical, and business information.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to distill technical content for varied audiences.
Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with scientific, clinical, and investment professionals.
